The Ohio Department of Taxation has sent 80 letters this year to businesses that own or develop energy projects to remind them that they might owe either of two taxes.
A company could be liable for a personal property tax for the equipment used to make the energy, and the kilowatt-hour tax on the power sold to consumers, said Mark Engel, a tax attorney with Bricker & Eckler LLP.
